Thanks for the good times Moonride!

It was bad enough doing one lap. But to do forty six 6.5 km energy sapping laps over 24 hours is mind blowing.
That’s what Ian Wright did to win the 24 hour solo event of the 2012 Cateye Moonride.
That was one lap more than our very own Jared Scollay who did 45 laps for second place.
Ex Jafakids rider Adrian Retief was 3rd and Andrew Jameson finished 6th.

A new venue for 2012 – Tui Ridge Park on the edge of the Mamakus and 15kms from Rotorua.
This years racing was tough. Rain during the week had made sections of the course unrideable for many.
However it didn’t deter the majority of our riders who were keen to get stuck in and do the business – and with outstanding results for the club.

The strong tradition we have of podiums in the junior grades was maintained as Jafakids picked up 1st and 3rd in the Junior 12 hour event.
The competition was just as fierce amongst the Jafakids dads with the 3 teams picking up 6th, 7th and 8th out of the 25 teams in the Older Dudes category of the 12 hour event.

Three podiums were also achieved in the 6 hour event with team of Jafakids mothers winning the 6 hour women’s category and Jafa girls coming in for second.  A team of three led by Gary Hutchinson with some outstanding laps by Jafakid’s Callum ‘Mittens’ Mcelroy helped their team place 3rd in the Open category.

What was fantastic about this years event was the number of DoC Jafakids, parents and DoC adult members riding for other teams who also faired well.

  • Endura sponsored riders Jemma Manchester and Harriet Bevan were part of the Endura NZ Girls team who won the Womens category.
  • Duane Watene, Jamie Till, Martyn Pearce, Paul Carroll and Jamie Jameson took the Shop category title for Avanti Plus Waitakere in the 12 hour race
  • Sasha Smith, Charlotte Delamore and Gunner Wester won the 24 hour Mixed category
  • Bruce Weir, Alan Postance and Brent Partridge rode as part of the CCC group to take 2nd in the Older Dudes category of the 24 hour event (they were 5th overall)

Notable were also the efforts of roadies and Coast to Coasters George Bradfied and Kent Hiku who fronted up to their first Moonride and helped their team to 6th in the 24 hour Older Dudes category.

Well done all and congratulations on the participation and results.
Thank you to all of those who helped to make it happen.

Bring on Day Night Thriller in September.
