He’s doing it again?
Some of you may question his sanity but why would he care? He is insane!!
Our own iRonman Skelton is doing Race Across America again this year.
“It has been described by one race winner as physically harder than climbing Mount Everest.
Now, a 53-year-old Kiwi is taking on one of the toughest cycling challenges in the world – for the second time.
Last year, Ron Skelton became the first Kiwi to compete solo in the Race Across America (RAAM), a 5000km cycling race through 12 American states from California to Maryland.” Stuff.co.nz (read the rest of the article here….)
Ron will be leaving NZ on 8th June to give himself a few days acclimatisation and a couple of his support team will be leaving on 11th June. Race start will be 13th June 2012.
If you would like to show your support please check out his Heart Foundation fundraising site, any donation is appreciated.
If you would like to take it a couple of steps further and support him on the ride there is still one spot open. Contact Ron directly rlskelton@hotmail.com
Thanks for the Jafakids fundraising support
This weekend saw 2 teams of Jafakids parents out fundraising for the club. A total of over $1000 was raised so an outstanding effort by all concerned
The Secondary Schools race at Sanders Reserve had the parents of the Jafakids selling sausages, col drinks and coffees as well as assisting with the marshaling on the course. Manchesters, Weirs, Tetley, Craggs, Wrights, Wellsford, Reilly, Bethels, Beavens, Dakin and others please forgive me I don’t have the names of all the helpers but a huge thank you for your efforts. A substantial $225 was raised
Kidz Bike Jams in Woodhill was huge. We were assisting Auckland Mountain Bike Club run the event.
Kay and Mike Spray along with Brad and Shannon were up at sparrows carting BBQ’s and setting up not only the Jafas space but also the event organisers.Kay has special thanks to the BBQ helpers Mike and Shannon, Thomas, Lisa and Gerard, Lydia, Brent (who was also roped into marshaling parking). The BBQ team also handed out loads of Jafakids information flyers, which all helps with the marketing of the club. Awesome effort. $520 was raised
Thanks to the Jafakids leaders, mid pack markers and tail end charlies who showed huge maturity, patience and great encouragement to riders struggling at the end of the packs. We were very proud of all of you
7km Robin Page, Charlotte Delamore and Paige Weir
5km Brad Spray, Alex Delamore and Max Neradt
3km William Page, Misha and Kian Wolstencroft
Jafakids Sheldon and Geavan also assisted
Marshals had a very busy day out on the course. They were not only directing the flow, they were actively counseling and encouraging kids and parents, nursing bruised bodies from falls and mini broken feelings after tumbles, as well as being mobile bike mechanics. Special thanks to Marshals Cindy, Barry, Jaqui, Phil and Tanya. Hayden said to pass on he had many compliments on the marshals helpfulness.
$300 has been donated to Jafas from Auckland MTB for our assistance on the day
Rona on behalf of DOC has also sent his congratulations for a huge effort put in by all involved this weekend.
It is fantastic to see the level of support in the club.

Race Report:
AKSS Champs Round 2/3, Sanders Reserve, Paremoremo, 20-May-2012
by Nigel Craggs
The Auckland Secondary School Championship returned to Sanders Reserve for the second round of the three race series. As the riders arrived, the sun broke from the clouds and we looked set for a good morning of racing despite it still being quite wet underfoot. For those unfamiliar with Sanders Reserve, it comprises of three main courses; Red, Green and Orange. For this round of racing, the troublesome Red course from the first round was left alone and instead saw the orange course pressed in to service. This was an open and flowing course with not too many trees but with some newly built berms to make the cornering exciting. This combined with some tricky off camber pinch climbs and a bit of gluggy mud just before the end of the lap and it made for quite an entertaining race course.

![]() XTC World Cup La Bresse, FranceA huge weekend of racing in France with a wicked course. The ‘old school’ course featured 1 loop around town to thin the bunch out then 5 laps of a torturous up hill followed by a long technical descent. Kiwi Karen Hanlen dropped out of the Elite women Cross country due to course constraints but both mens and womens races were full of surprises. Thanks to Martyn Pearce for posting link to Red Bull TV on the night as it was a thouroughly enjoyable race (maybe just a long night) |
