I am a competitive masters cyclist and a cycling coach. I am also a qualified personal trainer.
Having had a background as a competitive horse rider, I started cycling about 6 years ago, initially as a way to keep fit once I stopped riding horses. I soon became addicted, and within a year, I rode the 425km Nelson to Christchurch race as a two person team. The following year, I did the race again, this time as a solo. It took 18 hours, with only about 20-30min total rest stops! I then did the solo race two years later, in 16 hours, this time un-supported.
I have since ridden at Club Nationals, done the Tour de Femme in Nelson 3 times, the Tour de Vineyards twice, as well as races such as the Grape Ride in Marlborough and Round Taupo in 2008 (coming third in my age group).
With both my cycle coaching and personal training, my goal is to encourage and guide my clients toward achieving more than they thought they ever could. With the right information, and plenty of encouragement, we can all achieve things that we may initially think are only for those “really fit people”. In my coaching business, I coach all levels of riders from beginners, just getting into cycling, through to riders aiming for National Champs.
My own training is currently focused on doing some longer races toward the end of 2009, including K2, and Taupo Enduro (320km) and then two half Ironman races in 2100 plus a 160km Time Trial in Australia. Beyond that, an full Ironman in 2011 is my aim.
