A huge thank you to Catherine and Jeff Webb for making sure the trailer was all up to speed and then taking it down for me, also to Jacqui – what a legend, she cooked all day!!
As always it’s the people that make the event – so thanks heaps to you all for sharing in such an awesome day.

Amazing week last week

so here is what’s in this issue

  • New Zealand Club Nationals
  • Race reports including
    Ags Winter series 29th April
    T42 On Saturday
    Cycle for Life on Sunday
  • Moon Ride update

New Zealand club Nationals

Department of Cycling now has its first National Title thanks to Gordon McCauley’s gutsy effort on Saturday.
The Peoples Champion

“It’s not often the 40-44 year old event is one of the most anticipated races of the NZ Club Nationals, but it is when two of New Zealand’s great cyclists go head to head.
On the opening day of these championships, Aaron Strong (Counties Manukau) pipped the more favored Gordon McCauley (Department of Cycling) in the time trial event, but today McCauley evened the score with the road race win.
In true McCauley style, he attacked right from the start.”  Road cycling .co.nz

Congratulations also go out to

  • Morgan Smith and Richard Dean who competed in their first Elite nationals and placed 17th and 18th respectively.
    Read Richard’s race report here
  • Richard Hayward who placed 26th in Masters 3 road race.
  • Mereille Sitters who place 9th in the elite ladies time trial (a fantastic achievement after battling a fever the day before)

AGS Winter Series Round 1/4

Riverhead Forest, 29-April-2012.

Thanks to Nigel Craggs for another great race report for the Jafakids event on 29th April.

Congratulations to all the Jafakids competing and well done on such amazing results, yet again!!  Continue reading for Nigel’s report.

Sam Dakin leading the packLast Sunday morning marked the start of the 2012 Auckland Grammar School Winter Series.  Conditions during the week had been pretty dry but a few wet spells a couple of days before the race meant there was still the hallmark Riverhead mud – though not to the same extent we have seen it in some races in the past.

For those that know Riverhead the course started from the picnic area and after a short road section darted right to do Barlow Return in reverse.  At the top of Barlow Return the course split with riders riding down the hill and into sprints to complete a short lap or heading up the hill to do Patersons 1,  Patersons 2 and then back to join back onto sprints to complete the long lap.”  click here continue reading

T42 was held on Saturday

Based around the famous and iconic 42 Traverse track, the T42 offers the following event options;

48km Mountain Bike
42.2km Trail Marathon Run
24km Trail Adventure Run / Walk
11km Trail Run / Walk
6.5km Trail Run / Walk

Some great results from members on the trail.

  • Sasha Smith (ex Jafakid) came 2nd in the female 48km MTB.
  • Duane Watene came 12th in male 48km MTB
  • Sarah Natac came 13th in female 48km MTB after only 6 months on a mountain bike.

The Cycle for Life Cycle Challenge is Auckland’s longest running road cycling event. The event has been organized and run by the Buckland Beach Lions Club for the past 15 years and in the process has raised tens of thousands of dollars for children’s charities.  There are

There was a strong Department of Cycling contingent who all had a great time.  (was good to see some tired faces after the race as everything was left on the course.)

Congratulations to all who competed and well done for some fantastic times.

Brendan McGrath came second overall and has written a report of how it felt at the front.
