Hi guys, we’re looking at average speeds to maintain bunch work today.

Look to ride in a bunch that suits your pace ( generally there’ll be 3-4 bunches – 27+kph; 23-27kph; 20-23kph ). Dont worry about people riding off the front  – they can ride up to the next bunch if the speeds not working for them,  just think about how your bunch integrity is working.

Manflu and Nduro 2

by Tee Watene

Being sick is in fact not sick. In fact it sucks. Majorly.

So it was with sinuses blocked and a throat full of lung butter that I headed off to Rotovegas for Nduro 2. Now the only reason I went is because Id paid for the entry, oh and any chance to ride my bike in the Whakarewarewa forest must be taken.

With body weak from the Pox I opted out of the 45km, to do the lesser course of 30kms, relagated to the kids and chick’s event. How hard can it be? As it turns out, very.

Gameplan was to stick with the lead bunch for 20ks and then try to grovel the last 10. I lasted 6 before I was spat OTA. Manflu says no. Oh well, beaten by kids, and then chicked. Awesome haha.

Held my own on the flats and downs, but as soon as the trail went up I just had no energy and power. Pretty frustrating, knowing all the hard work Ive put in has been wasted. But Im ripping skids in the Redwoods, so how bad can it be?

In fact not too bad at all. Even though the power was down, the stubborness and will to not be overtaken, and determination to pass the guy on the bike with the bad S on it was in full effect. Gained 2 spots on Rosebank, burgled 1st in ol’ buggars.

All things considered pretty happy with how it all went. The mental game is there, the body will be back.

Bring on the 12 hr Day Night Thriller.
