This is a must do for riders pre K2 or Taupo (suitable for relay riders as well as those doing the solo)
and also a great Sunday Ride with some socialising afterwards

Pre ride registration and briefing at 6:30am, if you are not ready you will be chasing your group.

This will be broken into several groups

SHORT: Riding 50km in total – starts at 8am

Keep an eye on the weather throughout the week, if it is bad we will be shortening the ride to keep things safe.

Long Ride
For those not keen on heading to Wellsford there will be no official long ride from the shop.   A group will be doing the short ride from 7.30am and there may be a few people willing to go longer.
For those going longer here is a suggested route.

There are no set Ride leaders for the bunches on Sunday.  Please check out our “Road to Taupo” post to see the reasoning behind the rides planned up until Taupo.
Short Ride

If you would prefer a shorter ride there will be a group doing Rec Ride Course A

RIde out of the Blue

Every 2 days in New Zealand 3 people take their own lives. Last year twice as many New Zealanders took their own lives as were killed on the roads.

Ride Out of the Blue aims to address these devastating statistics by supporting the Mental Health Foundation in their work on suicide prevention. Ride Out of the Blue is now a biennial event that we hope will continue into the future.
Ride Out of the Blue is a road cycle ride from Bluff to Cape Reinga covering 2,330ks in 22 days, stopping in towns and cities and taking every opportunity to engage with communities and schools along the way. We start the ride on October 11th 2014.
In 2011 the ride led by Alison Blyth raised $30,000 for the Mental Health Foundation for help with Suicide Prevention Initiatives. In 2012 the ride was led by Aidee Walker and raised $46,000, most of which went again to the Mental Health Foundation for their work on a Mindfulness in Schools programme. This programme has been successfully delivered to five test schools. The evaluation of the test programme was very positive and the programme is now being delivered to more schools by a small team of trainers. It is our privilege to work with the Mental Health Foundation again.
We are writing to ask if you would like to join us on the ride for part of the way. We welcome cyclists to ride with us from 5m to 2000km to support the discussion and cause. We have 10 core riders who will be supported by vehicles, food and accommodation. We ask that if you do join us for some part of the ride that you are able to support yourself (food, water, mechanicals, accomodation etc). As we have a time schedule to keep, the group will be as slow as our slowest core rider.
I have attached our ride schedule. (below) We will be departing each morning at approximately 8am from the local police station in each town.If you would like to join, please contact me to let me know, and meet us early on the morning as we will have some paperwork and briefing to go through, and will roll off by 8am. We would love to have your support.

Ride Leader: Confirmed Saturday

Sunday

Coromandel riders should have received an email to inform of final details for the trip.  If you are booked and paid for but have not received any communication via email please let Catherine know. admin@avantipluscycles.co.nz
For those not heading out to the coast there will still be a ride on at the usual time of 7.20am.  There are going to be quite a few ladies on the longer ride this Sunday so if you are a lady who would like to try your legs out at 80km this could be a great supportive ride.  (most of the egos are trying their luck at 180km to Coromandel)  😉
