JAFAKIDS Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct is a standard that JAFAKIDS riders, coaches and parents agree to observe and abide by. The code is for the safety and benefit of members and helps to:

  • ensure people get along with each other within JAFAKIDS
  • ensure we represent JAFAKIDS, the Department of Cycling, our sponsors as well as the sport of mountain biking positively.
  • ensure we are all safe

The JAFAKIDS Code of Conduct is underpinned by 5 principles.

Respect – Safety – Personal Responsibility – Cooperation – Fun

Respect – having high regard for ourselves and others

  • Respect others on the trail.
  • Respect the JAFAKIDs brand and show appreciation to our sponsors by wearing the JAFAKIDS riding shirt and appropriate clothing on all JAFAKIDS rides.
  • Smoking or consumption of alcohol or drugs of any kind while representing JAFAKIDS will not be tolerated.

Safety – protecting our right to ride

  • Ride within your limits. Don’t push it if you’re unsure.
  • Advise your coach if you have any injury.
  • Wear the appropriate safety gear and ride with regard to yourself and others. Expect to be told to go home if you turn up with no gear or faulty gear (helmet, footwear etc…)
  • If a coach says ‘stay off the structures when it’s wet’ – they mean exactly that.
  • Night riding is fun as well as an important skill to have. Don’t turn up to night rides without an approved light, fully charged battery and rear light. Expect to be told to go home if you don’t have the right lights or an inadequate power supply.

Personal Responsibility – being responsible for ouselves and our actions

  • You’re responsible for your equipment so check your bike before turning up to a ride.
  • Arrive on time. Notify your group coach if you’re going to be late.
  • Have enough water (and food if possible), before, during and after a training session or race. No liquid – no ride.
  • Carry a pump, spare tube, tyre levers and multi-tool at all times.
  • Look after your equipment and keep it in good working order. Clean it and check it after you’ve finished a ride.

Co-operation – working and riding as a team

  • Don’t be in a rush to ride in a more advanced group. Learn as much as you can in the group your in. You will progress.
  • Tell your coach if you need to stop for whatever reason.

Fun – enjoying what we do

  • Make sure you finish your ride with a smile on your face.
  • Bring JAFFAs (the soft chocolate centred ones with red confectionary on the outside), to the Wednesday ride on the week of your birthday.
