Training Groups and Fees

There are three training groups within JAFAKIDS.
All groups focus on progressively growing mountain bike and cross country riding knowledge and skills.

The three groups are:

Jafakids:

  • An introduction to mountainbiking.
  • Must have a basic level of fitness and skill.
  • Must have a cross-country bike.
  • Riders can move up to the next group when fitness and skill criteria are met.
  • Focus is skills-based coaching – fitness comes with riding regularly.

Jets:

  • Racing at a good level locally (Auckland Championships and Auckland Secondary School Championships will be the criteria).
  • Will receive extra coaching with fitness to encourage good results at races.
  • One or two groups depending on age/level of racing.
  • Skills and fitness focus (generic basic training programs).

XC Race Squad:

  • Criteria
    • Can qualify for selection for NZ teams (Oceanias or World Championships)
    • National podium level in their age group.
    • Seeking national selection or national titles in XC

All groups ride every Wednesday evening, 5.30-7.30pm, except for school holidays. There are also weekend rides and school holiday rides, race calendar and coach availability permitting.

If you are unsure about getting DoC membership for your entire family take a look through the other sections of this website to see the rides and events they offer. As Jafakids get older they often find some of the road events like the Thursday Time Trial are useful for building fitness and many parents take part in those too.
