Mercedes-Benz Malaysia recently presented four units of its Mercedes-Benz EQ battery-electric vehicles to the minister of investment, trade and industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the company has revealed.
The electric vehicles presented to the minister were the EQS 500 4Matic, EQS 580 4Matic SUV, Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+, and the EQE 500 4Matic SUV, as a means for the ministry to experience EV motoring with Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles, towards achieving its “Push for Net Zero” mission under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).
“We will create the preconditions for a CO2-neutral new car fleet by 2039, while the pace of transformation is determined by market conditions and the needs of our customers. We are confident that with the full support from our stakeholders, we will not only contribute to a cleaner environment but also drive economic growth within the industry,” said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia CEO and president Amanda Zhang.
In Malaysia, fully imported (CBU) EVs are exempt from import and excise duty until December 31, 2025, while locally assembled (CKD) EVs continue to get the exemptions for a further two years, which is until December 31, 2027.
Early last month, the new road tax structure for electric vehicles in Malaysia was revealed by the transport minister, which is largely cheaper than the road tax for ICE-powered vehicles except in the lowest part of the spectrum. See the EV road tax structure, here.

Why give zero duties to luxury Evs when rakyat pay thro their nose for a simple Vios or City ?
Those super rich, even with punitive taxes, will buy Evs or luxury cars…so whats the rationale?
Does it mean, the taxes from the middle class are used to prop up Ev sales to the rich?
Hello, the rich do not need special treatment, esp for cars.
The poor and B40 do need reduced car taxes.

ev progression in their country, not SEA, and by doing that they are declaring they lost the ev battle to china, and can never stage a comeback in the future, a stupid move

We need better public transport not more cars on the road. Traffic will stay the same even if everyone switched to an electric vehicles. Having said so electric vehicles are much better in reducing noise in the city and also in the neighborhood. I recently saw a few electric vans in some neighborhoods and I was so impressed that were little to no noise produced compare to their ICE counterparts. Electrification is the future but doesn’t means that we should forget our public transport and infrastructure in favour of the other.

It seems like the speed of introducing New EV are 100x faster than installing new, reasonable fees EV charging stations. I wonder why the Minister being so smart but couldn’t see their contradiction? It just like keep encouraging the people to increase productivity on next generation without providing enough food supply, it will make MY worst!

NetZero is a worldwide scam. As it is CO2 levels are already a very low level… about 0.04% of the atmosphere!!
Actually I don’t believe much of the “green agenda” is green at all. In fact I think the net zero agenda is against nature. Especially when you see the trees chopped +animals displaced, chemicals leached and plastic pollutants everywhere!

5. Graveyards of green giants

Is this a purchase by the govt? If yes, then this is where our tax money goes to! No subsidy for the people, but to buy luxury vehicles!!! Or is it given free to the minister or govt??? On what grounds??? So many people are suffering due to high taxes and loss of subsidy causing widespread inflation. Hope our country is judging this!!!
