After his beloved Tennessee Volunteers’ baseball team stormed to victory in the 2024 College World Series Championship in June, Morgan Wallen announced a special homecoming show at Knoxville's Neyland Stadium for September 20. A mere matter of hours after this date was unveiled, Morgan added a second show on September 22 due to the “overwhelming demand” that met the first.

This is certainly no mean feat, given the fact that Neyland Stadium has a capacity of just over 100,000, and Morgan Wallen's double-header is expected to draw a whopping 150,000 fans in total. This will be a familial affair, with Morgan's two openers set to be his close friends and frequent collaborators, HARDY and ERNEST.

The trio have written a plethora of smash hits together, including Dangerous stand-out, ‘More Than My Hometown‘, and Morgan regularly brings them out on-stage with him. We expect HARDY to emerge with Morgan for a raucous rendition of their HIXTAPE collaboration, ‘He Went to Jared’, while ERNEST will most likely come out to perform his Country Radio chart-topping duet with Morgan, ’Cowgirls’.

The two shows will serve as a homecoming of sorts for the ‘Lies, Lies, Lies’ hitmaker, who spent his childhood a short drive away from Neyland Stadium in Sneedville, Tennessee.

Morgan Wallen is an avid and vocal supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers - the University of Tennessee team - and is regularly spotted at the venue cheering on the Vols.

The Volunteers have become intertwined with Morgan Wallen's brand, to the extent that fans will often show up adorned in Vols gear - even at concerts that are on the other side of the Atlantic, during Morgan's London BST Hyde Park set, for instance.

The country megastar has been open about how it is a longstanding mission of his to perform at Neyland Stadium - a venue that hasn't hosted a concert since 2019 - so we reckon Morgan Wallen might have a few surprises up his sleeve for the show.

For his now-iconic walkout, we suspect he'll be joined be an array of ex and current Vols players, including legendary NFL quarterback and Morgan's buddy, Peyton Manning.

Morgan Wallen doesn't switch up his setlist all that often, with the ‘Thought You Should Know’ crooner always making room for his biggest hits, such as ‘Wasted On You’, ‘Whiskey Glasses’, ‘Up Down’, ‘Chasin’ You’, ‘You Proof’, ‘Last Night’ and more.

Having said this, Morgan Wallen has a handful of songs in his sprawling catalogue inspired by the Tennessee Volunteers, most notably his If I Know Me fan-favourite, ‘Had Me By Halftime’, and 2022's ‘Tennessee Fan’. Surely, as he's performing at the home of the Vols, he'll have to temporarily add one or both of these to the setlist.

Neyland Stadium doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to parking. Morgan Wallen will be performing during the Fall semester, so country music fans travelling to the event will have to contend with over 30,000 students on campus, and many will be jostling for parking spaces. There are staff and commuter lots near Thompson Boling Arena, a short walk away from Neyland Stadium, and these will be accessible to the public from 4pm on the Friday and four hours prior to the event on the Sunday, according to the University website. It's important to be aware that, as of this year, the Neyland Stadium parking lots are card-only.

Other options include Terrace Avenue Garage, G4 and G3 in Andy Tall Tower Garage and - if you want to pay homage to Morgan's ‘Had Me By Halftime’, G10. Morgan name-checks this in the line, “September Saturday in Rocky Top / On top of G10 parking lot”.

Like many modern venues, Neyland Stadium has a ‘Clear Bag Policy’, with attendees allowed to bring one clear plastic bag that does not exceed the dimensions 12" by 6" by 12". Fans can bring a small clutch purse, providing it's no bigger than 4.5" by 6.5". Ticket-holders can find a full list of permitted and prohibited items here.

Morgan Wallen has an extensive merchandise range accessible via his online store, including a baseball-themed collection that will presumably be a popular outfit option at Neyland Stadium. We're hoping Morgan teams up with the University of Tennessee to create a few items inspired by the Vols, which will no doubt sell like hotcakes.

With Morgan Wallen continuing to tease new music - such as the beautifully intricate ‘Good to See You Smile’ and the infectious, pop-infused ‘Love Somebody’ - there have been some tantalising rumours circulating that Morgan is eyeing up one of his Neyland Stadium dates to officially announce his next studio album.

This would seemingly be the perfect place to do so - but regardless, whatever Morgan Wallen has planned for September 20 and 22, they're both sure to be momentous and unmissable occasions that'll go down in Neyland Stadium's storied history.
